I was born on the Isle of Wight and have lived here all my life. I am a self-taught artist and have been painting for as long as I can remember. I began painting in watercolour, but have tried acrylic on canvas as well as some pastel work. I now use water-mixable oil paints on primed mount board and feel most comfortable using this medium. Local scenes feature strongly in my work, and since I love living by the sea, these are mostly coastal views. In an attempt to add more atmosphere to my paintings I paint many of my subjects from life, working outdoors. I feel this has taught me to work quicker and has improved my drawing and observational skills dramatically. I have attended Life Drawing classes, where I used charcoal, pastel and ink. Although this took me completely outside my comfort zone, it produced some interesting results.
I have been a member of Cowes Art Group since 1991 and exhibit with the group several times a year at Gurnard Village Hall and St Mary’s Church Hall, Cowes.
I am inspired mostly by the Impressionist style of painting to create light and atmosphere. I also admire the work of contemporary artist Jack Vettriano.
I will happily consider commissions, please email me to discuss your requirements.
